Meet the Maker: Corey Follett

Hey Stashers! A bit about me in case you were curious to know where I 'longs to. I was born and raised in rural Newfoundland and currently reside in St. John’s. I work full time as a GED instructor and sometimes feel that I work fuller time as a quilter and designer. My first quilt was hand sewn with the help of a niece, under the watchful eye of an older sister, when I was a youngster. As a mostly self-taught quilter, twenty years later I returned to the craft equipped with a $200 Kenmore sewing machine and a few lessons on how to use it from a partner and his  grandma. In 2016, I started exploring quilting through improvisation and employing modern design elements to traditional blocks and motifs. In the past few years, I have had work featured in Home and Cabin Magazine, have had quilts displayed in a few businesses in downtown St. John’s, have been the featured craftsperson on CBCNL’s What are You At? and have exhibited work at The Newfoundland and Labrador Craft Council Gallery. In 2019, I was fortunate enough to have sold an original piece, The Codthedral, to the Provincial Art Bank of NL. I also founded the St. John’s Modern Quilt Guild and helped create and establish East Coast Quilt Co before departing both entities in 2020. Currently, I am enjoying being back in my design studio focusing on being creative and taking a step back from teaching workshops until further notice. Ralph and I are very excited to launch The Quilted Stash website and to continue designing and selling our patterns. We are also excited to blog about the experiences and communities related to this craft. Thanks for continuing to support us in our creative adventures. Here's wishing that you will be Awash with Creativity!

Cheers,

Corey
